Bonanza is the son of 2 Peruvian imports, CPeruvian Dakota and 5Peruvian Midnight, both black. He is a bit of a "black box" as the son of 2 imports, but he has shown that he can produce black offspring with outstanding coverage and quality fleece. He has 11 crias registered but had never been shown. Bonanza surprised us when we saw him shorn - he is an appaloosa! Bonanza has medium brown spots throughout his blanket and upper legs. This is a rare and unique color and he provide very interesting possibilities for producing modern reverse appaloosa offspring. Bonanza has no white spots or markings on him.

We were impressed by his fleece at his age of 14.5 years, as it appears to be a sorted non-hairy Grade 4, the best grade for socks an yarns. Imagine what his fleece must have been when he was younger! Bonanza carries that very special trait of "retained fineness". Bonanza sheared a 2 lb 12 oz blanket in May 2015, not bad for an older guy! He is still breeding, and his unique genetics offer black appaloosa genetics that are rare to find.

His sire, Cperuvian Dakota, was imported into the US from Peru via Canada in 1998. His lineage is unknown, other than full Peruvian. He has produced show winners in a range of colors, including black and greys. He had great coverage down his legs and on his face, which he passed to his offspring.

His dam, 5Peruvian Midnight, came to the US from Peru in the 2nd to last import. She was one of a handful of true black females in the import. She produced 4 crias, 2 bay black, a true black (Bonanza), and a medium fawn.

Bonanza is being offered at fiber/pet price because he does not "play well" with other males. He is friendly, easy to lead, great with kids and can be a great 4H alpaca, just doesn't like other males. He could be kept with other small livestock like mini horses, goats, or sheep.

He is offered for sale in the Sensational Suri Genetics Sale.
